Major problem today’s smartphone face is its battery life. What if you get a smartphone with 100 hours of reading time ?
We have seen manufactures using battery save modes to elongate the ‘ON’ duration of smartphones. Here comes a smartphone from Russia which has displays at either side of the phone, but gives 100 hours of reading time. They don’t use big batteries to provide extended ‘ON’ time, rather the technology lies in the second display the phone has on the back side of the phone.
The new smartphone comes from the Russian smartphone manufacturer Yota. The smartphone has two displays: a full 5.0-inch AMOLED display on the front and a 4.7-inch e-ink display on the back side.
The front side is just a like any high end smartphone you see today and running almost stock Android 4.4 Kitkat version. It has all the specs and features you’d expect in a modern, flagship Android smartphone.
Once you starts run low on battery, the e-ink backside runs Yota’s custom software that utilizes the technology to do basic functions like texting and making phone calls, but also running proprietary YotaApps and letting you read like you do on your Kindle. These apps include some basic games like chess and sudoku, and also an RSS reader. The e-ink display is said to have up to 100 hours worth of reading time, which is pretty incredible when you think about it.
The more you use the e-ink display during the day, the more your phone lasts without charging..
